7th Max-Planck Advanced
Course on the Foundations of Computer Science August 21 - August 25, 2006 Saarbrücken, Germany |
We meet for the first time on Monday morning on the ground floor of the MPI. The registration desk there will be open between 8:00 and 8:45 am. All lectures take place in room HS001 ('Hoersaal 1') of the computer-science building right next to the MPI, where we meet at 9:00 for a short welcome and the first lecture.
[will be added soon]
Tuesday after the lectures we have a school dinner. It takes place right next to a sports ground, which we will be able to use. So bring some relaxed clothes and shoes. We plan to play "Faustball" (fist ball?), an ancient predecessor of volley ball, and "ultimate frisbee". Also, you will have the chance to pass the "Deutsches Sportabzeichen" (using a famous 330m track).
Thursday afternoon we go for an excursion. Not far from Saarbrücken, there is are unused railway tracks. You can rent 4-wheel-bycicle-carts (in German: Fahrrad-Draisinen) to go along these tracks. That is what we will do. For more infos on this, see http://www.draisinentour.de. We return to Saarbrücken by bus, possibly not too early (depending on your stamina).
For those of you who are not familiar with German temperatures. Usually we have sunshine and temperatures of up to 30° celsius (86° farenheit) for the ADFOCS week. Sometimes, however, it's much cooler.
