Organization

Registration on Monday morning

We meet for the first time on Monday morning at the ground floor of the MPII (Building E1.4). The registration desk will be open between 8:00 and 8:50 am (there are roughly 80 participants, so please come timely). You will receive your batch and course material. By this time you should be decided whether you are a vegetarian and whether you attend the excursion (see below).

All lectures take place in room HS003 ('Hoersaal 3') of the computer science institute (Building E1.3) right next to the MPII. We meet at 9:00 for a short welcome and the first lecture.

Internet Access

All material necessary for ADFOCS will be provided to you. There is free wifi at the MPII building (wlan-mpi-public). At the computer pool in R310 of the MPII building there will be a number of workstations with internet access available for ADFOCS participants.

Reception

On Monday evening after the afternoon exercise session we have a welcome reception at the ground floor of the MPII.

Excursion

On Wednesday afternoon there is an excursion to Burg Kirkel. We will hike the hill this castle is located on and then enjoy crossbow shooting and a knights feast (a snack of some sort) at the castle. There will be a bus starting at the MPII that will bring us to the excursion and take us back. The excursion will be last until about 18:30.

Please keep in mind that comfortable clothing and shoes (sneakers are sufficient) that allow movement will be needed. Also bear in mind that it might rain and pack a water resistant jacket or something similar.

School dinner

On Thursday evening there is the school dinner at the restaurant / brewery

Stiefelbräu
Am Stiefel 2
66111 Sankt Johann
Saarbrücken
Germany
+49 681 93645-0

The Stiefelbräu is located in the city center and we will meet there. Note that the Stiefelbräu is the corner building, that is, the brewery, and not the adjacent restaurant. See the map for the exact location.

Weather forecast

For those of you who are not familiar with German temperatures. Usually we have sunshine and temperatures of up to 30° Celsius (86° Fahrenheit) for the ADFOCS week. Sometimes, however, it can be much cooler.
